Digital Commons is Harrisburg University's research repository. It is a showcase for articles, chapters, and other notable work by faculty and staff; as well as dissertations, theses, and other exemplary student works with the approval of faculty advisors. Works uploaded to Digital Commons are findable through Google and other web searches.

Material produced by Harrisburg University authors has been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times. Submitting your work to Digital Commons allows you to:

  • Build your reputation.
  • Share your work on resumes, job applications, and professional networks.
  • Index your work in Google & Google Scholar.
  • Make connections with other scholars in your field.
  • Track how often your work is viewed.

The menu items on this guide will help you through the process of preparing, submitting, and approving your work for publication and posting to Digital Commons. Before attempting to post your material, make sure you have all the information you need readily available.

The following checklist provides the steps you need to take to submit your work:

  • If this is your first time using Digital Commons, click My Account to create an account. Digital Commons accounts are not linked to your myHU credentials, so be sure to save your user ID and password for future use. You may want to consider using an email address that you can access after you graduate to ensure you receive notifications.
  • Acquire written approval of your work from your faculty advising team.
  • Understand your distribution rights and acquire a Creative Commons License (optional).
  • Accept the submission agreement and save a copy for upload.
  • Submit your work to Digital Commons. Among other details, you will need to enter your work's title, a narrative abstract of up to 250 words, 1 - 10 keywords to tag your content, and the date you completed your work..
  • Respond to communications from Digital Commons, Library staff, and/or faculty.
